Richfield MN Real Estate

If you are looking to purchase a home in Richfield Minnesota, there is a good chance that you will be looking at ramblers or 1.5 story homes with hardwood floors, full basements, and large mature trees in large yards on quiet streets. Most of these homes were built in the 40’s 50’s and 60’s. Many of the larger ramblers will have three bedrooms on one level. There is also a smaller selection of multi-level and two story homes for sale. Thanks to money from the Metropolitan Airports Commission, many of these homes have been soundproofed and refitted with new windows, doors, insulation, and other improvements. Together with changes in air traffic types and air traffic patterns, most people who live in Richfield consider the airport proximity a non-issue. Besides easy accessiblity to downtown and other important metro locations, the community enjoys its proximity to the parkways and lakes found on the southern edge of Minneapolis.

Living in Richfield MN

Even though Richfield is a tightly landlocked first-tier suburb of Minneapolis, the population predictions for the year 2010 are upwards of 37,500; that projected figure comprises an increase of about three thousand people, all within about seven square miles of land sandwiched between Minneapolis and Bloomington on the north and south sides, and the Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport and Edina on the east and west ends. The city economy provides jobs for about 12,000 people. Top employers include Best Buy, the largest electronics retail corporation in the nation, which is headquartered here. Other employers include GMAC, Richfield Health Center, Rainbow Foods, Softbrand, Lunds, and Menards. Educational needs are served by Independent School District 280, and private schools such as the Academy of Holy Angels, Mt. Calvary Lutheran School, and Blessed Trinity Catholic School.

Although the city is just ten minutes from downtown Minneapolis, it somehow retains a small –town atmosphere. This may be due in part to the scattered, small business districts, and the 24 city parks spread out over 460 acres of land that includes woods, water, and wildlife. The city started out as a small farming community, and was, in fact, named for the rich farmland. This farm-based community thrived because of its proximity to Fort Snelling, and, of course, the location on the south side of Minneapolis. The city experienced most of its growth in the 1940’s after it was bought up by developers and who sold homes to veterans returning home from the second world war.
