Relocating to Minneapolis
What is the top reason for purchasing Minneapolis real estate? It’s hard to say. This midwest architectural mecca boasts excitement in the form of the Walker Art Center Expansion, the new Guthrie Theater, and the new addition to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. There is business engery here as well. Minneapolis is the only major business center between Chicago and Seattle. The booming revitalization of this city’s vibrant economy is seen everywhere; even a short stroll through the Mill District on the banks of the Mississippi River will suprise you with its assortment of thriving boutique hotels, shops, and restaurants. The historic Sears tower has been transformed to the million square foot Midtown Exchange project, the second largest development in Minnesota. The only project that rivals it in size is Bloomington’s Mall of America.
Perhaps it is the abundance of water. Minneapolis is adorned and criss-crossed by lakes, wetlands, riverfront, waterfalls, and creeks. Lush, green, spacious parkways are all tied together by the Chain of Lakes and the Grand Rounds Scenic Byway.
Maybe it is the people. The tragic collapse of the 35W bridge highlighted the local traditions of charitable giving and corporate philanthropy. It also brought the city’s resolve and resilience into focus. If you visit Minneapolis, the missing bridge will hardly affect your ability to enjoy the city and navigate your way through it.
If those features aren’t convincing, how about a ringing endorsement from Oprah Winfrey? August 2007′s issue of “O” called Minneapolis the place to be. Minneapolis is used to receiving accolades from national publications like Frommers for its quality of life. Now, even Oprah is weighing in. Her magazine cites Uptown’s funky boutiques and sidewalk restaurants, posh hotels along the river, and world-class performance arts.
Minneapolis Homes for Sale
All of this vitality spills over into the real estate sector of the economy as well. The urban flight to the suburbs like Bloomington, Eagan, Richfield, Edina, and Eden Prairie that occurred in the 70′s is now only a dim memory. Suburbanites are coming back to look at stylish condo conversions, upscale downtown lofts, skyline penhouses, and even a good assortment of brand new single family home construction. Neighborhood revitalization is seen everywhere, and even includes restoration of residential malls graced with restored Victorian homes. Stately mansions on Lowry Hill are in better shape than when they were first built. The gracious lake view estates and luxury homes that surround Calhoun, Lake of the Isles, Harriet, and all of the parkways still sit atop well-manicured, landscaped embankments. Some of the large Gothic style homes along Portland and Parkway are proving to be perfect buildings for multi-unit housing transformations and upscale condo conversions.
